Job losses to occur at Barclays credit card division
In a recent report officials from Barclays Bank have announced that there are to be job cuts at the bank's credit card division. Officials state that in such a competitive area and with the financial climate the way that it is as a result of the credit crunch things like this are inevitable although the decision was not an easy one.The card production and statement mailing division of Barclaycard in Northampton will be closing, and this has resulted in around 160 jobs being affected. The staff members that are being affected by the job losses are apparently receiving full support from colleagues.
The card operation side of things will be moving to another location in the Hampshire area according to the reports. Some of the other work that is currently dealt with at Northampton will also be moved to other companies and areas, including Milton Keynes, Leicester, and Gloucestershire.
Officials from Barclays have not told those staff whose jobs will be affected about what is happening and how it will affect them. The members of staff will be staying on at the Northampton operation until the end of the year, which is when the move will take place. Those affected will then receive three months full pay whilst they look for other jobs.
A spokesperson for the bank stated: "Decisions like these are never easy and we will do everything we can to support our colleagues affected by this change. Barclaycard operates in an extremely competitive industry and we are looking to build a global credit card business"
